The sun is shining and heat waves are in full swing! In the summer you don’t want a full face because it can go cakey and oily so quickly. It is best to steer away from the full bake and towards a fresh, no-makeup makeup look.
If all else fails and time is running short, go for the brows. Well done brows help to frame the face and accentuate the eyes. If you don’t have any sparse areas and don’t need to fill in much, you can simply set them in place with a brow gel. Just be sure that you choose a brow product that is right for you. If your have darker hair the powder, pencil or pomade you are using should be at least 2 shades lighter than your hair. If you have blonde hair, it can be up to 2 shades darker. I have used a few forms of brow products but my preference is the Milani brow powder kit. It is inexpensive and easy to use!
Concealer is perfect for brightening up the under eyes. My favorite is the Nars Creamy Concealer because it has good coverage without feeling heavy. I use the wand under the eyes, around and down the bridge of my nose, and then a tad on the chin to highlight without all the bells and whistles. You can blend with your fingers if your in a hurry but a damp beauty blender speeds up the process. Sometimes I even set it in place with a spray of Hard Candy Hydrating Primer mist on the beauty blender to prevent creasing and allow the concealer to melt into the skin easier.
After concealing, it can take away some dimension so I like to use a contouring powder to add the warmth back in. The NYX contour kit is great because it is versatile as my color changes throughout the seasons. If you don’t need the full kit, look for a pressed powder that is a few shades lighter than your natural skin tone. Like brows, the warmer powders frame the face and make you look a bit sunkissed.
This summer, I have fallen in love with highlighting. This is easy to do by adding a cream or powder highlight to the high points of the face – tops of the cheekbones, on the cupid’s bow, the temples and down the bridge of the nose. For a more intense, strobed look, I like to layer the Benefit Watt’s Up cream contour stick and MAC’s Gold Deposit.
