Like many makeup wearers, I like to search the Internet for reviews before I purchase beauty or hair products but sometimes those reviews can lead you in the wrong direction. This series, ‘Products Not Worth the Hype’ will feature items that I don’t necessarily completely regret or believe is complete trash but I don’t believe is worth the price or effort and there are cheaper alternatives available.

Benefit They're Real_Fotor_CollageThe Benefit They’re Real Mascara has won all types of rewards and accolades from a variety of sellers and magazines so I thought this purchase was a no brainer.     I had seen it everywhere and thought that it would be worth the $21 but I was mistaken. The formula is in between dry and wet with a plastic wand. The design of the wand is very clever because it can easily reach the tiniest of lashes.

Whenever I have used this mascara it is difficult to get a lot of product. It prevents clumping but takes nearly twice as long to build up thickness. It is great for length but not great for thickness. If I want more volume, I have found it better to use in combination with another mascara. Another factor that turns me away is that I have found a drugstore dupe for a quarter of the price, the Maybelline Rocket Mascara. So if you are on the search for a long lasting lengthening mascara that for sure will not clump, save your money and but the drugstore dupe.

I hope to do more of these types of post and that it is helpful in your ventures for new products. Just remember, everyone’s tastes and preferences are different!

Infusium Leave In_Fotor_CollageMy hair is very damaged and fragile due to both genetics and years of chemical straighteners so I am always searching for products that will help nourish and treat my hair so it can return to a healthy state. Some of these products I have used over the years while some I have just began to fall in love with. I hope you find my reviews helpful in your journey for healthy hair.

My hair is naturally curly so I always need a good detangler on hand, especially if I do not plan on straightening my hair. My mother began using the Infusium Leave-In Treatment early on and we just never stopped. This particular one is formulated to help moisturize dry hair. I just spritz it on after I wash my hair or get out of the pool to prevent knots.

In the past, my hair always has washed better with the more inexpensive, thin, shampoos and conditioners because whenever I tried the more rich products they left a film on my hair. However, I have recently switched to using the Carols Daughter Sacred Tiare Anti-Breakage and Anti-Frizz Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Fortifying Conditioner. I have noticed a huge difference in the volume and moisture of my hair and it is great at defining my curls should I choose to wear my hair naturally.

Since my hair tends to look dry I always need some type of oil or serum on hand to run through the ends of my hair. I recommend if you are afraid of your roots looking greasy, only focus the moisturizing products on the mid to ends of the shaft to extend the times between washes. My current favorite is the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Infusing Smoothing Serum and it is very affordable.

I shampoo and condition every four to five days because I have learned that my hair is at it’s best when I limit how many times I shampoo it. Dry shampoos are a great way to prolong the washing process and/or give your hair added volume. I have tried a variety of products but my favorites come down to two. First was the Klorane Dry Shampoo, I got to try a sample and it was a amazing but pretty pricey so since then I have continued searching for the right one. A month or so ago I caved and bought the highly raved about Batiste Dry Shampoo in Wild and have been amazed and it is very affordable.

My current face routine is quick and simple and is especially great if you are generally crunched for time or just do not feel invested in a full beat face for the day. Many of the products I most frequently use are high-end but I can post an alternative that uses more affordable products. I hope that you find this helpful and can integrate these products into your routine.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation_Fotor_CollageAfter I wash my face I make sure to moisturize, to do so I like to use a pump of moisturizer and two drops of facial oil. I have combination skin, dry around the mouth/chin area and a slightly oily t-zone. I would rather look slightly dewy than too dry and flaky. For moisturizer I use Neutrogena’s oil-free moisturizer for combination skin and Boots Botanics Organic Facial Oil. These products sink nicely into the skin and provide a great base to the rest of my makeup.

The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation is a holy grail product of mine and I have used it for over a year. More recently I have switch from using a brush or sponge to simply using my hands. Since it is water based I waste less product and achieve a more natural look when I use my hands because the foundation can warms up and absorbs into the skin quicker.

Beware that this foundation is more of a light to medium coverage so I almost always use a concealer for my under eyes and any problem areas I may have. I am still searching for that perfect concealer but the Bare Minerals Correcting Concealer gets the job done because of the great coverage. Just be careful to use a light hand to avoid cakiness or creasing, as with most face products.

To set everything I like to use the Rimmel Stay Matte translucent setting powder focusing most of the under the eyes, along the bridge of my nose, and across my forehead. After powder you can lose some dimension in the face so I like to add some bronzer. Most commonly I use the Rimmel bronzer but if I am looking for a bit more color I like to use a Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder that is a few shades darker than my skin tone.

To finish of I like to add a little blush to my cheeks to add some color I alternate between Tarte Amazonian blush in Flush and Bobbi Brown’s Pink Coral blush.
